The Look That Got Me

Ever had your mom or a mom look at you as if she already knew everything you were thinking?

Had that comforting feeling when you know someone else knows you. It’s freeing to some and frightening to others.

What if the way YOU looked at someone freed them?

What if they way YOU looked at YOU freed you?

How could this be you? It starts with Power of Intuition. The perfect leadership concept to start off our Simple Steps Blog Series on Leadership.

This past Mother’s day gave me the opportunity to reflect on and learn from one of the strongest leaders in the world, a mum.

When I was a little girl, it seemed as though whenever I came home and had a bad day or something was bothering me from just a look she could tell. Those eyes that look deep into your soul and immediately make things better.

Countless times when something challenging or good was happening I would think to myself… I cannot wait to see my mom.

Why is that?

What is it about a mom that makes you want to see her?

How are mom’s such incredible leaders?

There are many answers to these questions but I believe a key is the Power of Intuition that mothers often exemplify.

Intuition: the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.

So how to we grow in intuition?

A foundation of a great leaders…

Here’s: 3 Simple Steps to taking your Intuition to the next level…

1. Listen – Learn to listen more and speak less. When we stop talking and start not just hearing but actively listening the ability to understand something immediately will increase. Ever noticed that in some circumstances mum’s don’t say much. They just listen. It is this quality that allows safety and security for anyone you lead to open up to you. If they feel you are a trustworthy listener that actually hears they are more likely to allow you to lead them.

2. Learn – Listen and Learn from others. Without the need for conscious reasoning is the key to intuition. When we listen and learn we loose the need to justify or consciously reason on every event. Mum’s learn from other’s too. They ask questions of other mothers, read books, and listen to their heart to tell them the way to comfort, inspire and lead. When you start learning: asking questions and putting the answers into action your intuition will enhance.

3. Lead – Leaders take action. Intuition does not need conscious reasoning so one of the ways to grow in it is to take a small step. I’m not saying to make decisions with no wisdom but I am saying to start doing something that you know you need to even if it does not make much sense in the moment. Just like a mum will come rush in with a hug, a look of understanding, a smile that says its going to be ok. Take action after you listen and learn what others are saying to grow in intuition.

Thank you to the many mothers out there that provide a beautiful picture of an remarkable leader that is based on intuition, they don’t give up and always believe the best in those they care for. Mom’s, one of the most incredible leaders today.

How can you step up and step out to be a great Intuitive leader today?

Write down one things to change on your calendar and do it.

Looking forward to continue our series on leadership… keep your eyes peeled and love to hear how your mom impacted you? What leadership quality did you learn from her? Comment below.
